Netizens Share Mixed Feelings on MEOVV’s Album: “Good Vocals, But Missing a Key Ingredient?”

MEOVV’s latest album has sparked a wave of reactions from listeners and while the praise for their vocal line is strong, some fans are expressing subtle but pointed disappointment.

A recent Pann post sparked debate with a critique that, while Gawon, Narin, and Ella have undeniably beautiful vocal tones, something still feels missing. The post pointed out that despite MEOVV’s solid vocal lineup, the group lacks a true “vocal spice” member someone with a distinct tone or character like Sandara Park, Lisa, or Ahyeon, who can cut through the blend and add variety.

The original poster wrote, “The songs are good, but they all start to feel a little suffocating.” They continued, “It’s not that the songs are bad just that they don’t leave you feeling refreshed.”

The post also noted that all five members appear to favor a CL or Gong Min-ji–style vocal approach, resulting in a tonal uniformity that lacks variation in both technique and emotional expression.

The structure of the album was also a point of contention. Listeners questioned the decision to lead with “DROP TOP”, which many felt had the energy of a follow-up track rather than a bold title song.

“If they had pre-released ‘Hands Up’ and chosen a strong, upbeat track like BABYMONSTER’S ‘Drip’ as the title, it could have left a much stronger impression,” one user suggested.

Online forums are buzzing with comments like:

  • For real, all their vocal tones feel kind of husky… It would’ve been nice if there were at least one member with a clear, refreshing voice.
  • What are you talking about? Sooin has to have bangs.
  • All of them have vocal tones and singing styles that suit pop… but the tone still feels husky overall.
  • I can sense the vibe of a longtime K-pop fan just from this comment.
  • Sooin’s vocals are the hidden gem. After seeing the encore, I really think Narin is going to make it big.

MEOVV clearly has talent, especially in terms of vocal stability and tone, but they may need to diversify their vocal identity and make bolder production choices to truly stand out in the competitive idol landscape.
